Around here we call him “The Admiral.” From the moment I saw this end table, I knew that it was worthy of a reFAB! It was built by Barton Furniture Company, located in Grand Rapids, MI, in 1984. I love when the furniture is stamped or marked by the manufacturer, so that we can confirm some of it’s history. We also know that, at some point, in the last 37 years, it made the journey from it’s birthplace in MI to Eufaula, AL. How it got from point A to point B is a mystery, but we were happy to find it at one of our favorite local thrift stores. It is a sturdy all wood table with a shelf and brass feet. The Admiral is most certainly traditional in construction and personality. When I was envisioning how to reFAB him properly, I wanted to make sure it maintained a traditional feel, but I wanted to update it for the next 37 years. I was excited to try a Juniper Blue paint with a chalk finish and I knew The Admiral could certainly pull it off. When we were happy with the blue, we decided to deck him out with gold. We refreshed his feet with gold paint and added gold stripes to the table top and shelf. Then we added a bit gold edging for good measure. It was quite a bit of taping and time, but goodness we are so happy with the finished product. Admiral Robin’s Egg remains, a sturdy, wooden, traditional end table, or accent table if you like, but it has been thoughtfully updated and he is looking as regal as ever.
